Navy Acquisition Priorities for the Future Fleet Forum

TBD

As the Department of Defense pivots toward the escalating great power competition, the U.S. Navy is modernizing, expanding and equipping its fleet for the future fight. In line with the priorities set forth in the National Defense Strategy, Navy leaders are looking at how to harness emerging technologies to build a network of naval sensors and shooters that can counter strategic threats like China.

The Navy is also focused on moving to a hybrid manned-unmanned fleet as it bolsters its persistent forward presence. Navy officials are now targeting technologies like artificial intelligence, autonomy, unmanned systems, communications and networking in their efforts to strengthen the fleet, and moving these systems from prototyping to fielding will be a key focus for naval services in the coming years.
